Advanced Photovoltaics Center (APC)

  • APC focuses on disruptive and revolutionary technologies for photovoltaic power conversion based on non-traditional ultra-high efficiency, low-cost solar cells
  • The research center leverages ASU’s large scale prototyping capabilities

  • Primary technologies presently being addressed:
    • highly efficient and flexible organic/inorganic hybrid solar cells
    • development of an efficient flexible hybrid solar cell having efficiency beyond 10%, that can be fabricated using roll-to-roll (or high throughput) technology
    • nanotechnology-based solar cells integrated with Si: quantum dot, nanowire, and nanocrystalline materials for multiple excitation and photonic cavity structures to enhance the efficiency of single junction cells
    • low-cost, thin film, high efficiency multi-junction compound semiconductor solar cells
    • hybrid photovoltaic/thermoelectric energy conversion devices
